Is there a thermostat control for Rug Buddy? It seems that SmartStat is only for the hardwired product, and the remote control for RugBuddy is on/off, not temperature. Would thermostat control for Rug Buddy be needed?
I live in the south (east central Mississippi). We run our air conditioner into December and start again in March. In the spring and fall, we often have the air on during the day and the heat on at night. When it’s hot, it is hot (over 100 + humidity), and when it’s cold, it gets down into the teens. We are currently remodeling a house to move into that has no heat or air at the moment. If I were to set the Speedheat system at a certain temperature, would it maintain that temerature hot or cold? In other words, the Speedheat can replace central heat, could it also replace air condidioning (with ceiling fans)? We would love to get one system for the house and not have to have a heating system and a cooling system. Also, with the Speedheat heating the floors, would it be unfavorable to open the windows?
We do have the PlugBuddy for use with the RugBuddy under rug heater panel, but most customers do not really find it necessary. The gentle warmth from the RugBuddy provides an even, comfortable unobtrusive heat, so most people are okay with turning it on or off whenever they are using the room or simply buying an appliance timer at their local hardware store.
That being said, if you are using the RugBuddy as an energy efficient primary heating source, a plugin thermostat such as the PlugBuddy™ is ideal.
Hi Leslie,
Our corporate office is actually in Georgia, so we completely understand! This is actually one of the many reasons why we are here – that’s why the SPEED in Speedheat is so important – the heating up and cooling down time.
Unfortunately, because of condensation issues, radiant floor cooling has not been perfected just yet, but we are working on it! We can, however, replace the central heating system. In fact, a Speedheat electric radiant floor heating system is ideal for a number of reasons in your situation – particularly since you most likely will only be using a few rooms at a time at night when it does become cold. This way, you will not have to heat your entire house just to be comfortable in the rooms you are using. At night time, you would only have to use the heaters in your bedroom, in fact!
Although we do not have air conditioning units, ourselves, we have heard some great things about the comfort and energy efficiency of condensation air conditioners. With both condensation air conditioners and Speedheat floor heating systems, it is fine to open the windows because the radiant effects will not be lost like they would be with a traditional blower system.
